After a decisive home victory against the Highland Rams in round one of the 4A State Playoffs, Timpview proved to be too much for Sky View to handle in round two on Friday.
Sky View’s defense didn’t have an answer for the running game of the Thunderbirds in last Friday’s playoff game in Provo. The Bobcats gave up four rushing touchdowns to Timpview and another in the air in the 49-17 loss.
Dane Anderson scored from two yards out midway through the second quarter. Zaden Clark tacked on three more points nailing a 36 yard field goal a few seconds later, sending the Bobcats into the locker room down 21-10 at halftime.
The Bobcats added another score in the third when Braxton Godderidge connected with Bryce Mortensen for a 10 yard pass. Having suffered a broken leg against Highland a week ago, the Bobcats were without receiving leader Logan Miller in this game .
Unable to put up the big numbers on offense that they were able to in the regular season, Sky View could not slow down the the Timpview offense that posted a score in the first quarter and two scores each in the remaining three periods.
Sky View finished the season at 9-3 overall with a 5-1 record in the conference.
Season stat leaders were Dane Anderson in rushing yards with 1131 yards on 222 carries scoring 15 touchdowns on the ground. He was followed by Braxton Godderidge with 449 yards on 83 carries and 8 rushing touchdowns.
Quarterback Braxton Godderidge finished the season with 206 completions on 325 attempts for 2,930 yards and 31 touchdown passes.
The Bobcats had a host of prolific receivers led by Logan Miller with 912 yards on 51 catches and 13 receiving touchdowns. Bryce Mortensen caught 24 for 471 yards. Justin Evans hauled in 34 for 434 yards. Alex McCrea was next with 26 catches for 307 yards, while Ryan Martin and Christian Fife each posted more than 200 yards.
The high powered offense was shored up by a pretty stingy defense that gave up only 21.91 points per game on average. Drake Oldham lead the way with 85 total tackles (solo and assists). Next was Dane Anderson with 62 total, Max Christensen with 60 total, Logan Miller with 56 total, Colton Durant with 55 total, and a host of others with double digit total tackles.
Zaden Clark had a stellar year kicking the football making 58-of-59 PAT’s (Points after touchdown) and was successful on 9-of-12 field goals with a long of 48 yards.
All in all Sky View had a pretty successful campaign this year and has lot to build on going into next season.
